Toubs are the cultural wear of Sudanese women. They are comprised of several bolts of fabric and are often colourful and patterned. Material selections vary and are worn depending on the type of occasion.

Here, two women sit side by side. Their toubs sit in stark contrast to one another. One is plain yet bold, the other patterned but subdued. Their hands are delicately touching. This piece is an ode to tender, intimate connections and relationships between women. The woman to the left is the artist’s mother and the woman to the right is her sister.
